What is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a system of natural medicine, based on the principle that any substance that can cause illness can also heal the illness. Homeopathic remedies are 100% natural, safe, effective and with no side effects. Homeopathic medicines are derived from botanical (plant), mineral and some animal sources.

How does Homeopathy work?

Homeopathy treats the whole person, the mental, physical and emotional. It is based on the theory that “like cures like”. If a substance can cause symptoms of a disease in a healthy person then it can heal a sick person suffering from similar symptoms. A Homeopathic remedy produces the same symptom that a sick person complains of having thus helping the body to throw these symptoms off. For any example, if you chop an onion usually it will make your eyes water and sting and your nose might run and burn. A Homeopathic preparation of an onion, Allium cepa, may be used to heal patients with a cold or hay fever if they have the symptoms of stinging, watery eyes and a runny, burning nose.

How does Homeopathy differ from conventional medicine?

In Homeopathy, the practitioner regards symptoms as the body’s healthy attempt to restore balance. A Homeopath will chose a remedy that supports the patients symptoms rather than suppressing them as in conventional medicine. For an example, in conventional medicine, the person suffering from a cold or hay fever is given an antihistamine, which dries up the symptoms artificially and masks the symptoms instead of finding the cause and treating this. With Homeopathy the cause is found, the symptoms are treated and the person is restored to health naturally with no side effects.

Homeopathy views each person as an individual, with a unique and different makeup. That is why two people with a cold, most likely will be given a different remedy. Unlike the “one size fits all” approach as in conventional medicine, a Homeopath chooses a remedy that matches the unique symptom profile of the individual. In conventional medicine, the person is given medication that suppresses the symptom, controls the illness and if the person goes off of the medication, the symptoms return. Homeopathy has a different approach, give a remedy for a short while, allow the remedy to stimulate the body’s inborn healing response and then be healed and no longer dependant on medication, Homeopathy or otherwise.

What is Homeopathy’s history?

German physician Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843) formulated the principles of Homeopathy. Hahnemann found that the conventional medical therapies of his time to be ineffective and harmful, and discovered in Homeopathy a means to help patients without side effects. Homeopathy spread quickly throughout Europe and the United States and has been used safely and effectively for over 200 years.

How is Homeopathy made?

Homeopathic remedies are derived from botanical (plant), mineral, and some animal sources. The process of preparing a substance and making it into a Homeopathic medicine requires two elements:

1. Dilution of the substance in measured steps
2. Vigorous shaking or succession of the preparation at each step.

The more the remedy is diluted, the higher the potency of the remedy is. The most common used potencies are 6x, 30x, 30c, 200x, 200c, 1m and 10m. The 6x potencies are generally used for chronic conditions over 3 years old and for deep tissue balancing. The 30x or 30c potencies are used for acute and chronic conditions and self-limiting ailments. The 200x, 200c or 1m potencies are mostly used for mental and emotional balancing. They can also be uses for injuries, burns, cuts and trauma if used within the first 24 hours of the injury. The 10m potencies are used for mental enhancements.
